Greenery: Encourages New Beginnings

The Pantone Color Institute has announced its Color of the Year for 2017 — and we’re back to just one color this year! It’s called “Greenery” or Pantone 15-0343 – a gorgeous shade of green.

The color is said to be symbolic of “new beginnings” — the reconnection we seek with nature and one another. Greenery is described by the institute as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”

This annual color award is supposed to serve as an icon of what’s taking place in the world, an expression of the mood and attitude. And this year that mood and attitude is a yearning for a fresh New Year, healthier food choices, flowers, greens, and the outdoors — in one word, environment.

“There’s a growing desire to reconnect with Nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe,” states Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s vice president.

So, in 2017 we’re planning to surround ourselves in “Greenery” and here’s some of our favorites!

In the Field: Ceres

It’s no secret that we appreciate beautiful protea here at Resendiz Brothers. Our latest fave? Ceres’ queen-size bloom and crimson bracts with white feathery tips, a love-at-first-sight creation. Drawing from a lineage of P. Magnefica (queen) and P. Obtusifolia, Ceres is a gorgeous yet hardy bush that when flowering can be seen from a distance and certainly can’t be missed. This queen protea has divine deep green leaves and sturdy long stems. And since Ceres blooms late autumn through winter, there’s a bounty of beauty, love and joy to spread through the holiday season and right into Valentine’s Day.

Resendiz Brother’s 2017 Calendar

For the last sixteen years we have designed and created a special Resendiz Brothers calendar, which we proudly share with all our family and friends. The time spent crafting the calendar has also become very special to us as it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the past year, to rummage through twelve months of fabulous photos and select our top thirteen favorites. The cover is usually a photograph that received quite a bit of attention during the year, and this year's choice - was no exception (it even made the home page of our new website). The remaining twelve pictures are selected based on the month or holiday which they represent and hopefully, with Mother Nature's cooperation the flowers be in bloom and ready for harvesting around the same time. So, here’s the 2017 images – which include a special combination of arrangements, bouquets, field shots, wreaths and truck loads of flowers!

CWA Wreath Making Workshop

Our kind of welcome to the Holiday Season, as the California Women for Agriculture – San Diego Chapter (CWA) brought good cheer to the farm on a recent Saturday. Clear skies and perfectly crisp temperatures greeted guests as they enjoyed a wreath making workshop, along with a tour of the nursery, a peak in the packing house and some tasty Mexican snacks. Our favorite flower farmer demonstrated the art of wreath making, while participants merrily contemplated what flowers and foliage they would select for their special wreath.

Once everyone gathered their favorite ingredients they created twelve small bouquets that were arranged and placed on a wreath frame and finally, clamped into place.

The workshop concluded with a viewing of 20 unique and festive wreaths, complete with holiday tunes and special greetings from several of our farm friends. Guests departed with a wreath in one arm and protea bouquet in the other.
