Protea Ceres

2023 Color of the Year: Viva Magenta


CHEERS to the Pantone Color of 2023: Viva Magenta 18-1750. Described as “a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength.” Considering this hue is meant to “encourage experimentation and self-expression without restraint”, it’s fitting that protea lovers will embrace this color. Not only are there plenty of magenta protea to choose from but, they too are symbolic of diversity, individuality and the courage to stay true to oneself.

Holiday Fave: Protea Ceres


Protea Ceres. A QUEEN SIZE bloom or what we call a ‘Hybrid Queen’→ this breathtaking protea is a splendid blend of magnifica and obtusifolia. When fully open, this flower is often 5 to 6 inches in diameter… making those crimson-red bracts with white feathery tips hard to miss in the field and definitely in a bouquet or arrangement!

In the Field: Ceres


It’s no secret that we appreciate beautiful protea here at Resendiz Brothers. Our latest fave? Ceres’ queen-size bloom and crimson bracts with white feathery tips, a love-at-first-sight creation. Drawing from a lineage of P. Magnefica (queen) and P. Obtusifolia, Ceres is a gorgeous yet hardy bush that when flowering can be seen from a distance and certainly can’t be missed. This queen protea has divine deep green leaves and sturdy long stems. And since Ceres blooms late autumn through winter, there’s a bounty of beauty, love and joy to spread through the holiday season and right into Valentine’s Day.
