Springtime - Our Season of Abundance

The first days of spring are a gift to the spirit. When the leucadendron explode into a bouquet of colorful blooms, butterflies inhale the sweet scent of waxflower and hummingbirds sip on the grevillea’s rich nectar.

Springtime is a special time of the year, unlike any other season here on the farm. Abundance is often associated with fall and harvest season, but for us spring is our season of 'abundance'. Our selection of pincushions, protea, leucadendron, grevillea and filler flowers is so amazing that we often feel like 'kids in a candy store'!

So, over the next few months it is our goal to bring a little more of our spring, our 'candy' into your life!

Serruria - Not Your Typical Cover Girl

This beautiful Protea, which is rare in nature, a superb cut flower and sought after by florists, is the best-know member of the Serruria family and truly a Fabulous Flower! 

And, did you know Blushing bride received its name through the custom of young men in South Africa's Cape wearing these flowers in buttonholes when courting. These Fabulous Flowers are perfect for boutonniers or mixed in bouquets!

Are you in the mood for a little romance? If so, then this is the perfect time of the year to explore our flower fields here in the hills of Rainbow, California.  No, I'm not suggesting that Resendiz Brothers is getting into the match making business or that you might possibly discover the love of your life in our flower fields.  However, what you will find is our Waxflower Romance overflowing with gorgeous pink and white blooms, and a exuding such sweet scent that you’ll be convenience ‘Love is in the Air’!  So, this afternoon I decided to venture out into the fields in search of a little Romance of my own – Enjoy!

 

Pink Duke & Brenda From the Field to Bouquet

When it comes to Protea and the month of February, I can't help but think about our gorgeous Pink Duke and Brenda. In our flower fields both proteas create an amazing display of bright pink surrounded by a bed of deep green leaves, almost like Easter eggs hidden in a huge field of grass. It is such a wonderful sight I almost hate to see them harvested!

However, as Easter eggs must be found, Pink Duke and Brenda must be harvested, and in the end enjoyed! So, from the field, to the farm they're tucked into pickup after pickup and eventually, mixed with more amazing flowers to create a stunning California Grown Bouquet!
 

'Pins' - They're Popping Up Everywhere

It's nearly springtime here in Southern California and our Pincushions are a sure sign that our favorite season is just weeks away. These fabulous blooms are quickly becoming some of the best known members of the Proteaceae family and are easily recognized by their flower-heads with long, conspicuous styles, each one thickened at its apex to form a pollen presenter. Together, the mass of styles look like 'pins' bristling from a pincushion, a similarity that has given rise to the popular name for these Leucospermums. It's obvious that Pincushion are becoming a 'favorite flower' as we've spotted them popping up just about everywhere - Enjoy!
