Flowers on Your Head

One of my favorite spring floral accessories is the flower crown or halo. There’s something very sensual and romantic about wearing flowers on your head. And, it’s not something that should be exclusive to weddings, they’re perfect for most any occasion - birthdays, baby showers, garden parties - the possibilities are endless.

There’s no doubt the floral crowns fashioned by our friend, Mud, for our Field to Vase Dinner were not your typical accessory but they were fun none the less. The gorgeous flower crown above filled with leucadedron, isopogon and serruria was just one of many flaunted by guests. “Flowers on Your Head” created a wonderful photo op that was quite entertaining, and in the end provided guests with a fabulous photo souvenir. BeBe and Farmer Protea Wedding Inspiration

You KNOW how much we love growing proteas! Well, we couldn’t be more excited to share some homegrown protea wedding inspiration with you. Mel and I got to be on several sides of the wedding fence this month when our friends, Mud Baron and BeBe Lerner tied the knot at the Highland Springs Ranch in the Cherry Valley. Farmer (aka Mud) said they wanted proteas in their wedding but when asked to create the bridal bouquets and centerpieces for the reception, we were thrilled. It’s not too often we get the opportunity to attend a wedding (Mel a groomsmen) and enjoy the flowers we grow and also arranged on the farm.

Let’s just say that, for a farmer who loves proteas, I was in heaven and OMG… that arch! I just love the way this wedding combined the elements of soft and strong – protea, berzelia and Australian wildflowers mixed with the dreamiest of fabrics in hues of pink and white, contrasting with silver place settings. For me, it was the perfect representation of the flowers we’re so passionate about growing!

Fun was a huge hallmark of this wedding day. Like groom - Farmer told Mel not to take his ‘wedding attire’ too seriously… only be sure to wear his hat, I got the impression that neither did the bride and groom, and everything about their big day was playful. From a witty Hawaiian dressed minister, to Bebe’s dogs, Bob and Ben, at her side and Mud’s dog, Patsy playing catch on the dance floor, it was an evening full of fun.

Flowers on Your Head

If you’re a fan of Flowers, School Gardens and Kids, our friend, Mud Baron needs no introduction. A self-proclaimed “farmer, artist and teacher”, he fills his days helping kids develop job skills while creating beauty through gardening. Benevolent artist that he is, Mud recently stopped by Grand View Boulevard Elementary to show his support for LA’s BEST annual fundraiser Locally Grown: A Garden Party being held on March 15th.

Mud’s motto, “Kids should encounter nature every day” and he passes that message on beautifully through his Flowers on Your Head talent.

LA’s BEST provides an after school and summer enrichment program to 25,000 elementary school students in 198 schools in the most economically distressed neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles. Students are given the tools to excel in school, discover new talents and create a brighter future.

Instagram: Photos We Dig

Ten fabulous photos featuring images by Pasadena’s Muir Ranch Director, Mud Baron, whose fun and unusual floral crowns were all the rage at Coachella 2017. This year, festival-goers who made the pilgrimage to Indio came equipped with festival staples—crop tops, mesh, denim, flowers and a bohemian attitude—demonstrating why Coachella has a reputation as the ancestral homeland of the festival look. There’s no doubt Mud’s floral crowns were an opportune ‘new’ fashion accessory at the festival!

Summer Nights in the Garden

Created for a recent Summer Nights in the Garden event, the gorgeous flower crown above filled with protea, kangaroo paws and bottle brush was just one of many flaunted by guests at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Flowers on Your Head, a sold out hands-on garden workshop, created a fun photo opt that enchanted guests throughout the evening. We caught up with our friend, Mud Baron, to learn more about these trendy floral accessories, which are easy to design and provide a great way for men, women and children alike to show off their personal style.

Take a look as Mud is let loose on a warm summer night in the museum garden to bring his trademark floral head pieces to life.
