Sometimes You Just Need a Little Bit of Protea
We love a big, dramatic protea as much as anyone.
But there are times when a floral design doesn't need a flower that takes center stage.
Sometimes, you just need a little bit of protea.
That's what makes Pixie so special.
With its petite, beautifully formed bloom… a delightful mix of Protea pudens and longifolia, Pixie brings the unmistakable personality of a protea to an arrangement without overpowering it. Its rich shades of pink, burgundy, and cream add a touch of the unexpected, while its smaller size and fine-textured foliage make it remarkably easy to work into a wide variety of designs.
For us, that means options.
Pixie can peek through a garden-style bouquet, nestle among roses and seasonal blooms, add texture to a centerpiece, or bring a little architectural interest to a more delicate arrangement.
Use it with other proteas for a layered design, and because it's petite, you don't necessarily have to choose just one.
Several Pixie blooms scattered throughout a wreath can create rhythm and repetition. Group them together and they become a small focal moment.
One of the things we enjoy most about Pixie is how easily it works with other proteas.
Pair it with soft, romantic serruria for contrast. Combine it with grevilleas for something more natural and textural.
It's a protea that doesn't demand the entire conversation.
It simply adds something interesting to it.
Pixie blooms in the fall and continues through winter. Its warm coloring and distinctive texture make it a natural fit for the seasonal palette, from autumn's rich tones through the more sophisticated colors of winter.
We're excited about Pixie because it gives us another way to think about protea.
Not bigger.
Not bolder.
Just beautifully different.
A smaller bloom with a lot of personality… and plenty of room for creativity.
