Here We Grow Again

Those of you who've visited our flower fields in the last two months may have noticed the we've cleared several acres next to one of our waxflower and leucadendron fields. Someone asked me: "Why are you clearing this land, it seems really steep?" A little surprised, I answered: "This is going to be my newest protea field!  It's time to take another step and expand our flower farm."

So, over the last two months we've cleared this parcel of brush and cleaned up all kinds of trash, mulched and graded new roads. Now it is ready for the next phase, putting in drip irrigation and planting. I anticipate this second phase will take about two and half months. Next spring we may see a few colorful protea blooming in this field. No flowers will be harvested until probably spring of 2014, and by 2015 we will have blooms ready for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. In the meantime, lots of care and patience are required as we watch this new flower field grow and mature!

Springtime in the Leucospermum Fields

Springtime is definitely the most beautiful time of the year in our flower fields. Not only do we have a rainbow of colorful filler flowers, our leucospermum or "pincushion" fields are absolutely breathtaking! From yellow to coral and orange to red these gorgeous flowers are a sight to see blooming on the hillsides!

Happy Mother's Day

Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes, by dozens and hundreds. Lots of  flowers, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers and sisters, aunts and cousins, comrades and friends—but only one mother in the whole world!

If I had a flower for every time I thought of you…
I could walk through my flower fields forever!

Happy Mother's Day!!!
